Montenegro – Inje

Every Eurovision requires a Balkan ballad, and this year, Montenegro is responding with Inje, the Eurovision answer to Frozen. But instead of Queen Elsa of Arendelle, we are getting the dry wit of Vanja Radanovic, a man who likes drinking, hates children, and claims his favorite Eurovision memory is “memory foam.” None of this comes through in his song, which is a real loss. Finding an unexpected wellspring of humor like Vanja is the perfect example of why you need to pay more attention to Eurovision year round, people!

So how is his song? It’s all about his cold cold heart, and is suitably anthemic, ending with a heartfelt “Va-ah-ah-ah-lo Inje!” at the end. But the staging makes no sense and the costumes are LITERALLY the same ones worn by Father Ted in that Eurovision-themed episode so will he make it through? I hope so. Vanja is too funny not to reach a wider audience.

TWITTER JOKES YOU SHOULDN’T BOTHER MAKING BECAUSE THEY’VE ALREADY BEEN DONE BETTER BY THE EUROFANDOM: Have at it, Twitter. Vanja Radovanovic is the master of the meme, however, so just accept you won’t be as deadpan funny as him.

SHOULD YOU TAKE A PEE BREAK DURING HIS PERFORMANCE: No. Respect the master of the Balkan ballad.
