The murky image above is the actual fire that broke out on stage at the Semifinal Jury 2 show last night, and it’s a good metaphor for the show. It’s absolute fire. The Eurofandom was all hyped up about semifinal 1, but it’s this show that’s going to break my heart. There are three absolute duds in this round (two of which are duds because they are just outright offensive) and that leaves 15 fun performances competing for 10 slots.
So here’s my list of who I’d like get through tonight:
1. Norway (no doy)
2. Denmark
3. Hungary
4. Australia
5. Moldova
6. Ukraine
7. Sweden
8. Slovenia
9. Montenegro
10. San Marino
And here’s my list of who I think IS going to get through tonight:
1. Norway (no doy)
2. Denmark
3. Hungary
4. Australia
5. Moldova
6. Ukraine
7. Sweden….
You may note that the top seven is no different.
But then we go to the final three, and we have two performances – Russia and the Netherlands – that I think are egregiously awful for different reasons (one’s a little bit racist, the second’s a whole lot ableist). And I’m terrified that they might go through.
That leaves a final spot for – I don’t know. Maybe voters will love the low-rent aesthetic of San Marino? Or the plucky nature of Slovenia? Or the ethnojazz sounds of Iriaio? Or will the diaspora come through for Gromee from Poland again? All I know is that if Hungary doesn’t go through, I’m going to set fire to something myself.
No livetweeting tonight, as I’ll be out of internet range for most of the performance, but do expect a wrap-up post before the finals.
