I thought that Drake (not a Eurovision contestant YET) had the video of the summer with his recent release of an In My Feelings video.
I was wrong.
Dima Bilan, he of the overwrought Eurovision winner Believe, and Polina Gargarina, of both the overwrought A Million Voices AND an insipid Russian World Cup song, have teamed up for an absolute bonkers video satirizing Russian wedding traditions.
Let me put it to you this way – it’s Russian Eurovision stars being funny. Not adorable funny, like, ‘Awwww, look at those grandmas’, but broad, slapsticky, scenery-chewing funny. And I am 100% here for this tonal shift from treacle.
Look, let’s go through what this video has:
It’s got Dima Bilan engaging in a sloppy cake (bread?) eating session with Polina.
At least I think it’s Polina – who can tell under all of that makeup?
There’s sassy girlfriends (some of whom have had previous relationships with Dima).
There’s ostentatious wedding gifts.
There are guests fighting.
And a tiger.
And a horrifically funny wedding accident. And most of all, it’s got me, at every moment of every day of my life:
I need them to release this with English subtitles.
If this was the type of fare we’d get from Russia at Eurovision every year, I would be breaking out my computer to hack them to a victory, because this side of Russia needs to be shared more.
Bravo, Dima and Polina. Now give us more!
