Songvakeppnin – Final Preview and Predictions

It has been a rough couple of days, what with the prolonged Ukraine drama, and the eventual loss of one of our few 2019 bangers, and about the only thing keeping me going right now is the delightful possibility put forth by the Icelandic competition, where it’s a bunch of people vs. Hatari.

So let’s review what’s coming up:

Fridrik Omar – Hvað ef ég get ekki elskað

Okay, Fridrik Omar, good on you for singing in Icelandic.

Okay, Fridrik Omar, good on you for singing in Icelandic. What’s not good for you is that all white outfit.

Mama Said – Kristina Bærendsen

This is a fun 60’s inspired bop. It’s got an upbeat James Bond theme vibe going for it, and if Hatari were not in this year’s performance, I would likely be a stan for this song. Unfortunately, it was the wildcard, and it’s also not sung by anyone with a previous Eurovision record, so I’m sorry, Kristina, but you’re likely not to make it through.

Tara Mobee – Fighting for Love

Tara, I love your shiny gold jumpsuit and your confidence on stage. I just want it to be put in the service of something more than this song, which sounds like it should be closing out the soundtrack of some mid-2000s romcom.

Moving On – Hera Bjork

Okay Hera, your video makes me love your song. And there’s nothing wrong with a big voice lady with a power ballad. But it’s just the year of Hatari, and I think that the Hera vs. Fridrik dynamic could cancel each other out.

Hatari – Hatrid Mun Sigra

12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG! 12 STIG!

I mean, if it’s anything but Hatari, there is no justice in this world.
